St. Stephen Church held its 17th Annual Calendar Dinner Dance

On the evening of November sixth the Altar Rosary Society of St.Stephen Ukrainian Catholic Church sponsored its 17th Annual Calendar Dinner Dance. The over one hundred and forty people -parishioners of St. Stephen’s and guests enjoyed for an evening of good music, singing and fun. Chairperson, Jessie Kaciuba & Fr. Oleksandr Dumenko tried to bring a good atmosphere and make everyone to feel comfortable.

This was Rev. Fr. Oleksandr Dumenko’s first calendar party. He and the other attendees were in awe of the magnificently decorated tables, one for each calendar month. Outstanding was the May table, honoring the Blessed Mother on Mother’s Day. The abundance of flowers, not to mention the mouth-watering hord’ourves could make the Blessed Mother pleased.

The months of January and August were devoted to Ukrainian traditions. January inspired thoughts of Christmases past and Malanka, while August brought renewed patriotism with the singing of “Oj U Luzy”. It seemed that everyone joined in.

Each month had its own special song and all who enjoy singing sang along. Beginning in January hostesses were HalynaJakubowycz and SlavaKochman, February – Nell Jubanowsky, March – LubaBonczek, April – Helen Kardash, May – OksanaDumenko, June – Helena Chernego, July – Dorothy Rygiel, August – Olga Tchir, September – Mary Bogdan, October – Eugenia Yurkowsky, November – Dolores Dzubaty and December – Maria Ilkiw and Jessie Kaciuba.

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was during the gift auction when the winning ticket for a child’s doll in a baby carriage was drawn. The four-year-old daughter, Maryana, of Rev. and Mrs. Dumenko leaped with joy into her father’s arms, when their ticket was drawn. The gift auction has been a favorite through most of these past seventeen years, always done beautifully by The Glowa Sisters, Marie and Vera.

Although it can be serious, the 50/50 was made fun through the efforts of Luba Bonczek and Maria Ilkiw. It was nice to see very happy and smiling faces at the end of this evening. A good time was had by all.

In the closing remarks, Rev. Dumenko thanked the musicians Somers & Steele for their great performance, the hostesses for their beautiful tables and all people, inviting them to come back next year for Calendar Dinner Dance, which is scheduled for November 5th, 2011.
